Although tagged for a grand slam by Ed Goodson, Clay Kirby was able to pitch the Padres to a 6-5 victory over the Giants thanks to a game-deciding homer by Dave Roberts. The Padres built up a 5-0 lead going into the seventh inning when two errors, one by Kirby, and a single by Gary Thomasson loaded the bases for Goodson's smash as a pinch-hitter.
