Rick Wise and Reggie Cleveland pitched complete games and each posted his 12th victory as the Cardinals defeated the Expos in a twi-night doubleheader, 9-3 and 2-0. The Cardinals were losing in the lidlifter, 3-2, before exploding for five runs in the sixth inning. Wise clinched his own decision by smashing a homer with two men on base.

In the nightcap, a double by Tim McCarver and single by Ted Simmons produced a run in the third inning and the other tally followed in the eighth on a double by Sizemore and infield outs by McCarver and Bernie Carbo. [The Sporting News]
