After losing the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 1-0, in 10 innings, the Reds came storming back to beat the Astros, 11-5, in the second game. Don Wilson pitched the Astros' shutout on a four-hitter and was the winner on an unearned run. Tommie Agee opened the 10th by reaching base on a throwing error by Darrel Chaney, took third on a single by Roger Metzger and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cesar Cedeno. Pete Rose rapped three hits including a bases-loaded double, and Dan Driessen contributed a single, triple and homer to the Reds' 16-hit attack in the nightcap. Joe Morgan also homered for the Reds, while the Astros had a round-tripper by Doug Rader. The doubleheader, played without a promotion, drew the largest regular-season crowd in Reds' history, 52,285.
