Jim Bibby, making his first start since pitching a no-hitter against the Athletics July 30, yielded eight hits and also walked nine as the Rangers lost to the White Sox, 5-3. The Rangers staked Bibby to a three-run lead in the first inning, but his wildness more than offset the fact that he struck out 11.

The White Sox scored twice in the fourth on a single by Bill Melton, two passes that loaded the bases and a single by Luis Alvarado. Two more walks and a single by Carlos May produced the tying run in the fifth. The White Sox then added the winning pair in the eighth.
