The Red Sox rapped Alexander for four runs on a single by Luis Aparicio, double by Reggie Smith, single by Orlando Cepeda, double by Rico Petrocelli and single by Carlton Fisk. Eddie Watt relieved and pitched the rest of the way, giving up only one run on a homer by Tommy Harper in the ninth. Merv Rettenmund hit for the circuit with a man on base for the Orioles.
