Jim Wynn, Roger Metzger and Cesar Cedeno, the first three batters in the Astros' order, collected seven hits among them in a 5-4 victory over the Reds. Wynn walked in the fourth and scored on an error and single by Cedeno. After drawing a pass in the sixth, Wynn stole second and crossed the plate on a single by Metzger.

Tommy Helms, the only Astro to get a hit other than the leadoff trio, singled in the eighth to start the Astros' winning three-run rally. Jerry Reuss sacrificed and Wynn singled to score Helms. Singles by Metzger and Cedeno added another run before Metzger counted what proved to be the winning run on a grounder by Bob Watson. [The Sporting News]
