The Twins scored all their runs in the sixth inning and won the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 4-2, but the batting of Merv Rettenmund led the Orioles to a 10-4 victory in the nightcap. Bobby Grich tripled and doubled and scored both Orioles' runs in the first game. The Twins began their rally in the sixth with an infield hit by Rod Carew, who advanced to second on a wild throw by Larry Brown, stopped at third on a single by Tony Oliva and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Darwin. After Steve Braun walked, Jim Holt drove in two runs with a double and crossed the plate himself on a single by Danny Thompson.
