. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Held to five hits by Jim Bibby, the Yankees lost the first game of a twi-night doubleheader to the Rangers, 2-1, before coming back to win the second game, 3-1, behind the combined six-hit hurling of Doc Medich and Lindy McDaniel. In the opener, the Rangers scored both their runs in the second inning on a double by Alex Johnson, pass to Jeff Burroughs, single by Toby Harrah, wild pitch by Sam McDowell and single by Jim Spencer. The Yankees almost pulled the game out of the fire after scoring their run in the ninth on an infield hit by Matty Alou, pass to Roy White and double by Bobby Murcer. However, Graig Nettles lined into a double play and Felipe Alou bounced out to end the game.

Sonny Siebert, who started the nightcap for the Rangers, was charged with the loss although pitching to only two batters before leaving the game with a sore shoulder. Bernie Allen led off with a double for the Yankees and Matty Alou bunted safely. After Mike Paul relieved Siebert, Allen scored on a sacrifice fly by White. Jim Ray Hart drove in another Yankee run with a single in the fifth and Matty Alou provided an insurance marker with a homer in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
