Triples by Tony Perez and Bobby Tolan helped the Reds score four runs in the fourth inning to account for a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. After the Cubs had picked up a run in the top half of the fourth, the Reds came back with the tying tally on an infield hit by Pete Rose, safe bunt by Joe Morgan and single by Dan Driessen. Perez followed with his triple to drive in Morgan and Driessen. Tolan then tripled to score Perez with what proved to be the winning run. Ron Santo homered with a man on base for the Cubs in the eighth.
