. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Making his first start since his no-hitter against the Padres August 5, Phil Niekro allowed five hits in pitching the Braves to a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. Niekro retired the first three batters, but Willie Stargell doubled in the second inning and Richie Zisk homered.

The Braves tied the score in the fourth, added a run on a homer by Mike Lum in the sixth and then counted twice in the ninth on singles by Frank Tepedino and Marty Perez. As a result, Niekro was able to win although giving up two runs in the Pirates' half of the final frame on a pass to Gene Clines and circuit clout by Stargell. [The Sporting News]
