Gaylord Perry pitched a six-hitter as the Indians breezed to an 8-1 victory over the Rangers. The Indians scored their first five runs off David Clyde, but the Rangers' youngster was a victim of poor support that resulted in three tainted tallies.

Walt Williams started the Indians' scoring with a homer in the first inning. Chris Chambliss singled and scored when John Ellis singled and Bill Sudakis booted the ball in right field for a two-base error. Ellis then counted on a sacrifice fly by Charlie Spikes. With two out in the fourth, a double by Buddy Bell, intentional pass to Williams, infield hit by Chambliss and wild throw by Toby Harrah on the play admitted two more markers.
