Mike Schmidt smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning and added an insurance run with a round-tripper in the ninth to power the Phillies to a 5-3 victory over the Dodgers. The Phillies scored their initial run in the first on singles by Cesar Tovar and Greg Luzinskl around a pair of infield outs. The Dodgers took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Steve Garvey singled, Willie Crawford walked and Joe Ferguson homered. Schmidt's decisive drive in the seventh came after singles by Bill Robinson and Bob Boone. [The Sporting News]
