Batting safely in his 16th straight game, designated hitter Orlando Cepeda had a 5-for-5 day including a homer, to set the pace as the Red Sox beat the Angels, 14-8. The Red Sox knocked out Bill Singer when Danny Cater hit for the circuit with Carl Yastrzemski and Cepeda on base in the fifth inning. Carlton Fisk greeted reliever Rich Hand with another round-tripper. Dick Pole, who was removed in the sixth after Frank Robinson hit a three-run homer for the Angels, received credit for his first major league victory.
