Mike Marshall, after receiving credit for his 24th save as the Expos won the first game of a doubleheader, 2-0, returned to the mound in the second game and was the loser when Dave Roberts homered in the 10th inning to give the Padres a 4-3 victory. Steve Rogers pitched the first eight innings for the Expos in the lidlifter and allowed only four hits before going out for a pinch-batter in the ninth. Marshall set down the Padres in order in their half. The Expos scored their runs in the fourth on a walk, triple by Bob Bailey and single by John Boccabella.

The Padres, who had a homer by Jerry Morales in the nightcap, tied the score at 3-3 in the ninth inning on a pinch-double by Cito Gaston before Roberts won the game with his circuit clout in the 10th. [The Sporting News]
