After knocking out Bert Blyleven in the seventh inning, the Tigers breezed to a 9-3 victory over the Twins. Blyleven had a 2-1 lead before the Tigers erupted for three runs. Mickey Stanley and Gates Brown started the stanza with singles. The next two batters struck out, but Norm Cash walked to load the bases and Bill Freehan singled to drive in two runs. Aurelio Rodriguez followed with a single to add another counter. The Tigers scored two more runs in the eighth and three in the ninth with the aid of two errors, two wild pitches and a passed ball.
