Derrel Thomas, whose wild throw allowed the Mets to go ahead in the eighth inning, atoned for his error with a double in the ninth as the Padres rallied for two runs to gain a 3-2 victory. Fred Kendall opened the rally with a single and gave way on the paths to Dwain Anderson. Dave Winfield singled and both runners moved up an extra base on a bobble by Cleon Jones in left field. Rich Morales hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Anderson. After Ivan Murrell struck out and Jerry Morales drew an intentional pass, Thomas doubled to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
