Tom Bradley gained his first victory since July 13, after losing four decisions, when the Giants edged the Phillies, 2-1. The Giants scored in the second inning on a double by Willie McCovey and single by Ed Goodson. Gary Matthews singled in the fourth, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by Bob Boone and counted on a sacrifice fly by Gary Thomasson. Boone homered for the Phillies' run in the fifth. Bradley was removed after Del Unser singled to open the ninth and Elias Sosa took over to finish the game. [The Sporting News]
