Pinch-hitting in the 10th inning, Hal King came through with a homer to give the Reds a 2-1 victory over the Mets. King's clout was his third of the year in a pinch role and his fourth of the season among only five hits.

Willie Mays homered for the Mets in the fourth and George Stone, who was working on a two-hitter, protected the lead until the ninth when the Reds tied the score with successive two-out singles by Dan Driessen, Tony Perez and Johnny Bench.
