A loser of five straight decisions since July 20, Bill Singer returned to the winning column by pitching the Angels to a 4-1 victory over the Tigers. The Angels reached Joe Coleman for a run in the first inning on a walk to Rudy Meoli and singles by Frank Robinson and Bob Oliver. A double by Tommy McCraw, single by Jeff Torborg and sacrifice fly by Sandy Alomar added a tally in the second. The Angels then iced the decision with two runs in the sixth on a walk to Oliver and singles by Mike Epstein, Torborg and McCraw. The Tigers avoided a shutout in the eighth with a run on two walks and a single by Willie Horton. [The Sporting News] |
