Ken Sanders, who was with the Twins before being sold on waivers August 3, saved one game and won another when the Indians defeated his former teammates in a doubleheader, 5-3 and 4-3. Buddy Bell provided the Indians' big blow in the opener, smashing a three-run homer in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Sanders relieved after the Twins scored their third run in the eighth.
