Freddie Patek drove in two runs with a single and later stole home as the Royals scored four times in the second inning to defeat the Yankees, 6-2. Ed Kirkpatrick doubled and counted the Royals' first run on a single by Kurt Bevacqua. Fran Healy singled Bevacqua to third and took second himself on a fumble by Roy White. Patek followed with his two-run single. Cookie Rojas singled, sending Patek to third. Rojas then broke for second, drawing a throw from catcher Thurman Munson, and Patek stole home, helped by a poor return of the ball by second baseman Horace Clarke. [The Sporting News] |
