A double by Bobby Grich, single by Mark Belanger and sacrifice fly by Al Bumbry in the ninth provided the Orioles' winning run in a 2-1 victory over the Twins. Steve Brye scored the Twins' run in the fourth, hitting a double and coming around on a wild pitch and infield out.

The Orioles tied the score in the sixth with singles by Tommy Davis and Boog Powell and a sacrifice fly by Merv Rettenmund. Jim Palmer, who was seeking his 10th straight victory, was forced to leave the game after seven innings because of a cut on his right thumb and Grant Jackson was the Orioles' winner in relief.
