The Red Sox built up a 9-0 lead and then barely outlasted the Rangers, 9-8. The Red Sox clipped David Clyde for their first seven runs. Tommy Harper added a pair with a single off Jackie Brown in the fifth inning. The Rangers came back to knock out Dick Pole and Bob Veale and score eight runs in the eighth before Bobby Bolin finally ended the outburst.
