Although held to only four hits, the Braves were able to beat the Pirates, 3-2, when Dusty Baker smashed a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Nelson Briles held the Braves to one hit in the first six frames before leaving the game with back trouble.

Luke Walker inherited a 2-0 lead, but the Braves scored an unearned run in the eighth on a single by Marty Perez, error by Dal Maxvill and a wild pitch. Darrell Evans opened the ninth with a single, leading to the exit of Walker in favor of Dave Giusti, who served up Baker's homer. [The Sporting News]
