Following a clutch pitching performance by Diego Segui in the 10th inning, Jose Cruz homered for the Cardinals in the 11th to defeat the Reds, 5-4. In the Reds' 10th, Dan Driessen walked, stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. Segui walked Tony Perez and Johnny Bench to load the bases with none out, but then struck out Larry Stahl and Andy Kosco and retired Darrel Chaney on a fly to kill off the Reds' threat.
