Although Nolan Ryan struck out eight to go over the 300 total for the second season in succession, the Red Sox defeated the Angels' fireballing righthander, 4-0, behind the four-hit hurling of John Curtis. Ryan became only the third pitcher, joining Rube Waddell and Sandy Koufax, to strike out 300 or more batters in each of two straight seasons.
