The Orioles set a Baltimore club record for longest winning streak by defeating the Royals, 7-1, for their 12th straight victory. The previous mark of 11 was set in 1970 and tied in 1971. The Orioles decided the outcome in the first inning with two runs. Al Bumbry singled and scored on successive throwing errors by Steve Busby on pickoff attempts.
