Playing their home opener, the Twins got a game-saving performance from Bill Campbell and defeated the White Sox, 3-1. Bert Blyleven, who started for the Twins, was removed in the ninth inning after giving up singles to Ron Santo and Jorge Orta. Tom Burgmeier, relieving, retired Buddy Bradford but walked Bucky Dent to load the bases.

Taking the mound, Campbell struck out Pat Kelly and forced Ken Henderson to ground out. Rod Carew hit two singles for the Twins, stole two bases and scored two runs. Larry Hisle accounted for the other tally with a homer in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
