The Expos, who had been idle since the start of the season because of bad weather, finally swung into action and defeated the Pirates, 12-8, with a four-run outburst in the 13th inning. Bob Robertson hit a pinch-homer for the Pirates with a man on base in the ninth to force the game into overtime.

Larry Lintz opened the 13th with a double and, after an intentional pass to Ken Singleton, Jim Cox doubled to drive in the tie-breaking tally. Following another intentional pass to Barry Foote, Ron Woods stroked a two-run single and Chuck Taylor, the Expos' winning reliever, doubled for the fourth run.
