Reggie Smith singled in the 11th inning for his fourth hit of the game and drove in Tim McCarver to give the Cardinals a 7-6 victory over the Pirates. McCarver reached base with a pinch-single and took third on a single by Lou Brock before Smith delivered the deciding hit. The Pirates took a 4-0 lead with the aid of a three-run homer by Dave Parker, but then fell behind before Richie Zisk tied the score with a circuit clout in the ninth to send the game into overtime.
