Defeated twice while the White Sox were losing their first five games of the season, Wilbur Wood turned things around with a six-hitter and beat the Angels, 5-4. The White Sox took a 3-2 lead on a homer by Buddy Bradford in the fifth inning and then added two runs in the seventh on a walk to Eddie Leon, forceout by Ed Herrmann, sacrifice fly by Buddy Bradford and triple by Ken Henderson.

Mike Epstein homered in the Angels' half and another run followed on a double by Leroy Stanton, an infield out and sacrifice fly by Winston Llenas before Wood clamped down to preserve his victory. [The Sporting News]
