Lynn McGlothen, making his first N. L. start, needed help in the ninth inning but received credit for the victory when the Cardinals defeated the Pirates, 6-4. Three of the Cardinals' runs were unearned on errors by Ed Kirkpatrick and Dal Maxvill as the Pirates went down to their sixth straight setback.
