A five-run rally in the eighth inning brought the Padres a 6-5 victory over the Giants. Gary Matthews drove in four runs with a single and homer to pace the Giants to a 5-1 lead before the Padres started their rally by loading the bases on a single by Matty Alou and two walks. Fred Kendall singled, driving in two runs, a single by Dave Winfield with one out scored another run and when Cito Gaston forced Winfield, the tying tally crossed the plate.
