Reggie Jackson smashed two homers and accounted for all of the Athletics' runs in a 4-2 victory to open a doubleheader, but Dave Nelson took over the slugger's role and drove in six runs as the Rangers won the nightcap, 10-2. Jackson hit for the circuit in the second inning of the lidlifter, but a homer by Jeff Burroughs in the fourth and another run on a double by Tom Grieve and single by Mike Hargrove in sixth put the Rangers ahead. In the eighth, however, Bill North singled, Sal Bando was safe on an error and Jackson won it with his second homer.
