Winning his first game in a Padres' uniform, Jim McAndrew, formerly with the Mets, scattered 10 hits while beating the Braves, 6-1. McAndrews' biggest jam came in the eighth inning when the Braves filled the bases with one out, but Rowland Office popped up and Norm Miller flied out. The Padres decided the outcome with two-run singles by Johnny Grubb and Fred Kendall in the third. Dave Winfield added a run with a homer in the fifth.
