Lynn McGlothen, who did not bat with the Red Sox last season because of the A. L.'s use of designated hitters, drove in the Cardinals' first two runs with a double in the fifth inning to start himself off to a 6-2 victory over the Phillies, who were stopped on their six-game winning streak. A walk to Ted Sizemore, double by Reggie Smith and sacrifice fly by Bake McBride added a run in the sixth. The Cards made it 4-2 with a run in the seventh on a double by Lou Brock and single by Sizemore. Ken Reitz iced the victory, driving in the last two tallies with a single in the eighth.
