Handed a 5-0 lead in the first three innings, Reggie Cleveland gained his first A. L. victory when the Red Sox defeated the Indians, 6-3. Bernie Carbo homered with a man on base for the Red Sox in the first. Three more runs followed in the third when Doug Griffin singled, Carbo was hit by a pitch, Carl Yastrzemski doubled, Dwight Evans beat out an infield single and Bob Didier lofted a sacrifice fly. Cleveland hurled only six innings before yielding to Dick Drago. The Indians scored their runs on homers by Charlie Spikes, Buddy Bell and George Hendrick. [The Sporting News]
