Three homers carried the Orioles to a 5-3 victory over the Yankees. Steve Kline, who started for the Yankees, walked Rich Coggins before Tommy Davis hit for the circuit in the fourth inning. Another pass to Mark Belanger preceded an inside-the-park homer by Al Bumbry in the fifth when center fielder Bobby Murcer missed an attempted diving catch of his line drive.

Belanger, batting against Yankee reliever Fred Beene, hit his homer in the eighth. The round-tripper was the first for the Orioles' shortstop since September 4, 1972, and the ninth of his major league career. Graig Nettles smashed a two-run homer for the Yankees. [The Sporting News]
