Dave Concepcion and Tony Perez batted in five runs between them to help build up an 8-0 lead before the Reds put down a rally by the Padres in the ninth inning to emerge with an 8-4 victory. A single by Concepcion drove in one of the Reds' two runs in the first inning. Concepcion doubled in two more in the seventh and then trotted home himself ahead of a homer by Perez. After the Reds added a pair in the eighth, Jack Billingham faltered in the ninth and the Reds had to call on Pedro Borbon in relief to quell the Padres' four-run rally. [The Sporting News]
