Although held to only two hits, the Giants succeeded in defeating the Dodgers, 5-4, thanks in part to an error by Ron Cey and a spell of wildness by Don Sutton. Bobby Bonds homered in the sixth inning for the Giants' first hit off Sutton, who had a 3-1 lead going into the seventh when Cey mishandled a grounder by Garry Maddox. Sutton then walked three straight batters to force in a run before being removed.

Chris Speier greeted the arrival of Mike Marshall with a single, driving in two runs to send the Giants ahead. After a sacrifice, what proved to be the winning run followed on an infield out by Chris Arnold. Steve Garvey homered in the Dodgers' half. [The Sporting News]
