A winner of one game this season, Wilbur Wood went down to his fourth defeat when the Royals erupted for four runs in the fifth inning to beat the White Sox, 7-3. The Royals already were leading, 2-0, when Wood's only walk and singles by Fernando Gonzalez and Al Cowens accounted for the first run in the fifth. Cookie Rojas then came to the plate and smashed a three-run homer to send Wood to the showers. A single by Chuck Brinkman and homers by Buddy Bradford and Dick Allen accounted for three White Sox runs in the home half of the fifth. [The Sporting News]
