A wild pitch by Jim Slaton that allowed Dick Allen to score in the sixth inning proved decisive as the White Sox defeated the Brewers, 3-2, behind the combined three-hit hurling of Jim Kaat and Cy Acosta. The White Sox scored their initial pair in the first on a walk to Jorge Orta, double by Allen and single by Ken Henderson. Kaat gave up a walk and singles by Dave May and George Scott for a Brewer run in the sixth.

After Slaton's wild pitch with the bases loaded in the White Sox half, the Brewers threatened in the seventh with a single by Rob Ellis and one-out pass to Darrell Porter, bringing Acosta to the mound in relief of Kaat. Ellis moved to third when Don Money forced Porter and scored on a passed ball by Ed Herrmann, but the Brewers were unable to get any further against Acosta. [The Sporting News]
