Pinch-hitting in the ninth inning, Tom Paciorek smashed a three-run homer to carry the Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Phillies. Greg Luzinski hit a two-run homer for the Phillies, who took a 3-2 lead in the ninth on singles by Bill Robinson and Tony Taylor around an infield out.

In the Dodgers' half, Ken McMullen singled and gave way to Lee Lacy. When the Phillies attempted a forceout on a grounder by Davey Lopes, Lacy slid into Dave Cash and knocked the ball out of the second baseman's glove, with the result that both runners were safe on the error.
