The Orioles, after building up a 4-0 lead, barely escaped with a 4-3 victory when an Angels' rally fell short in the ninth inning. The Orioles scored what proved to be the deciding run in the eighth on a walk to Boog Powell, wild pitch by Bill Singer and double by Don Baylor.

The Angels began their rally in the ninth with a one-out run on singles by Dave Chalk and Winston Llenas and a double by Frank Robinson to chase Dave McNally. Bob Reynolds, relieving, was greeted with a two-run single by Bob Oliver before ending the game by inducing Richie Scheinblum to ground into a double play. [The Sporting News]
