Graig Nettles tied the A. L. record for most homers in April, hitting his 10th of the month, as the Yankees defeated the Royals, 4-3. Frank Robinson had set the April mark while with the Orioles in 1969. Willie Stargell holds the N. L. record with 11 homers for the Pirates in April, 1971. Thurman Munson also homered for the Yankees, connecting with a man on base in the fourth inning, before Nettles rapped his drive in the sixth. The Royals tied the score at 3-3 in the seventh, but in the Yankees' half Jim Mason walked and raced home to score the deciding run on a long double by Roy White. [The Sporting News] |
