| A weak-hitting pitcher, Jerry Koosman surprised with a single in the ninth inning for his first hit of the season to spark a three-run rally that enabled the Mets' lefthander to defeat the Padres, 5-2. After Koosman's single, Bud Harrelson bunted and when Bill Greif threw wildly to first base, Harrelson was safe and Koosman reached third on the error. Felix Millan then singled to score Koosman with the run that broke a 2-2 tie. Harrelson stopped at second. After a sacrifice by Cleon Jones and intentional pass to Rusty Staub, John Milner singled to provide the Mets with two extra runs. [The Sporting News] |
