Apparently beaten when Pete Rose hit a three-run homer for the Reds in the top half of the ninth inning, the Cubs came back with a two-run smash by Rick Monday to gain a 6-5 victory. The Reds' first two runs in the game also came on a homer by George Foster in the second inning. The Cubs, picking up one run at a time, went ahead, 4-2, before Rose connected for his first homer of the season in the ninth. However, Don Gullett took over as the Reds' sixth pitcher in the Cubs' half and was an immediate loser when Vic Harris walked and Monday drilled his game-winning wallop. [The Sporting News]
