While Gaylord Perry pitched a five-hitter, the Indians knocked out Vida Blue in the fourth inning and defeated the Athletics, 8-2. John Lowenstein, Buddy Bell and George Hendrick each drove in two of the Indians' runs. The loss was Blue's fourth in row. After giving up singletons in the second and third, Blue was charged with five runs in the fourth, but all were unearned on errors by Reggie Jackson and Sal Bando and a passed ball by Gene Tenace. Perry's only troubles came in the seventh when the A's scored on a walk to Jackson, double by Joe Rudi, sacrifice fly by Tenace and single by Pat Bourque. [The Sporting News] |
