With two out in the seventh inning, the Mets erupted for five runs on homers by Rusty Staub and John Milner to defeat the Padres, 6-3. Nate Colbert had a homer for the Padres, who went into the Mets' half of the seventh with a 3-1 lead. After retiring first the two batters, Randy Jones lost control and walked Bud Harrelson and Felix Millan before coming in with the pitch that Staub drilled for a homer. Cleon Jones followed with a single and Milner then wrapped up the Mets' victory with a homer for their final two tallies.
