Continuing his sensational work since coming over from the Cubs, Fergie Jenkins pitched the Rangers to a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox. Jenkins' duel with Rick Wise was decided in the fourth inning. Cesar Tovar walked and stopped at second on a single by Alex Johnson. Rick Burleson fumbled a grounder by Jeff Burroughs to load the bases and Jim Spencer followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Tovar. Burleson made a total of three errors, tying the A. L. record for a shortstop playing his first major league game. The victory was Jenkins' fifth in a row and brought his record to 6-1. [The Sporting News]
